History is a compulsory subject for all learners up to Grade 9. The syllabus covered is in keeping with government regulations and follows the South African IEB guidelines.
Throughout the school, History is taught using textbooks based on the modern approach towards historical study: namely, using a variety of historical sources as a tool for learning – as accurately and fully as possible – the truth about the past. Thus learners are encouraged to utilise their own interpretative skills in reaching an understanding of the topic being studied.
From Grades 10 – 12, History is a choice subject. This means that classes are usually smaller, but they invariably consist of learners who are passionate and enthusiastic about the subject, which in turn makes lessons more dynamic and exciting.
