Physics is taught at the Deutsche Schule Pretoria as a compulsory subject from grade 7 to grade 10 (two lessons per week in grades 7 to 9 and three lessons per week in grade 10). In grades 11 and 12, Physics is one of the optional subjects (four and five lessons per week respectively). Learners in grades 10 to 12 do science practicals in addition to the normal lessons.
The contents of the curricula consist of the core curricula prescribed by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the States of the Federal Republic of Germany (KMK) supplemented by the school’s own curricular topics which include our particular points of emphasis such as alternative sources of energy.
Lessons are conducted by experienced teachers from both South Africa and Germany.
The department is well equipped with apparatus that allow for a great number of demonstration and learner experiments. The subject rooms are suitably equipped and have electronic white boards, Internet connections and computer stations for teachers and learners.
