Information on school closure

Pretoria, 16.03.2020 (updated: 23.03.2020)

Dear Parents and members of the School Community

As per the instructions of the South African government, the DSP will close its school grounds on Tuesday, 17.03.2020 at 14:10. The lessons on this day will still take place according to the timetable, the extra-mural activities, however, will not. Please make sure that all children have left the school property by 14:30.

This also applies to the Afterschool Care Centre, Kindergarten and Crèche. From that point on, no more children will be allowed on the school premises. Access for adults is granted by appointment only.

The school, the Kindergarten, the Crèche and the Afterschool Care Centre will remain closed until 16 April 2020. The second term will start on 17 April 2020 (as per the latest instructions of the government), unless the situation changes and we have to postpone the start further. In that case, you will of course be informed promptly via the official communication channels of the DSP.

The official communication channels of the DSP are:

– The website

– The Facebook page

– Email and SMS from the school management

Please direct any subject-related questions to the respective subject teachers. Operational and administrative questions can be directed to the school management.

We would like to point out that we will not start the holidays prematurely, but that we will provide teaching material to ensure that the requirements of the subjects, the exams, the NSC and the Kombi-Abitur can be met. Our IT is currently evaluating the best options for an e-learning platform. As soon as it is available, you will receive further information. We will start with Grades 9-12, and then move down once everything is working as planned.

The Parents Day will not take place. Teachers are required to contact the parents on their lists telephonically by Thursday.

Parents are required to inform us of their children’s travels to high risk areas and of any infection of their children with the corona virus. After the school has been re-opened, these learners may only enter the premises once we have received written proof of no threat.

So far, we have no known cases of Covid-19 at the DSP.

Please take care of yourselves and stay healthy.

Kind regards

A. Wagner (Chairperson) / B. Kiehn (Principal)
