New Secondary School and Outreach
Education builds bridges
The New Secondary School (NSek)
Since 1988 the Deutsche Internationale Schule Pretoria has enrolled academically strong learners from previously disadvantaged areas such as Mamelodi and Eersterust.
After a one-year preparation course, approximately 20 learners are chosen from our partner schools to be enrolled in the Grade 5c class, based on their performance in Mathematics, English and their general social behaviour.
Integration is a priority at the DSP and joint activities such as the school’s orchestra and LEGO Robotics promote the co-existence of socially and culturally diverse groups.
Integrated class trips in Grade 5, 7 and 8, integrated lessons in subjects such as Sport, English and Afrikaans as well as Sport days all contribute to the DSP being a school of encounter.
Events with our partner schools promote an understanding of our culturally diverse community and exchange programmes contribute towards improved education.
Teacher training programmes, teacher- and learner exchange programmes contribute to the success of the Outreach Programme.
In addition to these programmes more cultural and sporting events are offered in co-operation with the German Embassy such as our musical outreach events and soccer tournaments.
