The closer learners get to the end of their school career, the more often they are likely to hear “You need to make a choice!” The freedom to choose one’s future path is in itself quite challenging.
We would like to equip our learners with a solid foundation to make informed decisions about their future. The Career Orientation team furthermore aims to promote Germany as a destination to study or receive vocational training.
As part of the subject Life Orientation (LO) learners in Grade 10 need to complete an internship. This placement is generally the first exposure our learners get to a professional working environment. They are required to independently find a place to do their internship. For two weeks they work as normal employees and have the opportunity to compare their expectations and dreams with the reality they experience.
At the end of Grade 10 our learners need to make a final subject choice for Grade 11 and 12. These decisions have an influence on the career options they will eventually have. Therefore the learners are comprehensively informed and guided in decision-making.
In Grade 11 learners have the opportunity to visit Germany during a study tour. They experience the support offered to enable them to study in Germany, the challenges studies abroad bring with them as well as the cultural offering and differences that exist.
In Grade 12 the learners can take advantage of the individual consultations offered by the Career Guidance Department.
Since 2019 our Career Day has grown into a Career Week which is devoted to the future of our learners. Through workshops and presentations the learners from Grade 10 to 12 experience the various different avenues open to them upon completion of their Abitur/Matric. They also receive pointers on how to make the most optimal decisions in terms of their career.
