The closer learners get to the end of their school career, the more often they are likely to hear: “You need to make a choice!” We would like to equip our learners with a solid foundation to make informed decisions about their future. The Career Orientation team furthermore aims to promote Germany as a destination to study or receive vocational training.
As part of the subject Life Orientation (LO) learners in Grade 10 need to complete an internship. This placement is generally the first exposure our learners get to a professional working environment. They are required to independently find a place to do their internship. For two weeks they work as normal employees and have the opportunity to compare their expectations and dreams with the reality they experience. At the end of Grade 10, our learners need to make a final subject choice for Grade 11 and 12. These decisions have an influence on the career options they will eventually have. Therefore the learners are comprehensively informed and guided in decision-making.
As part of the exchange with our Partner School in Cologne, we also offer the participants the opportunity to get to know the University of Cologne. A special highlight is a day trip to our partner university in Mannheim. Here our learners gain insights into the fields of technology and Applied Natural Sciences and IT.
On three to five consecutive days before the Open Day, workshops, and excursions on the topic of study and career orientation take place for Grades 9 – 12 under a varying motto. Universities, institutions such as the DAAD, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and representatives of companies are invited. The aim is for the learners to find out how many avenues are open to them after the Abitur and how they should in order to make wise decisions when choosing a career.
