With great respect and gratitude, we remember Dr Gerhard Robert Backeberg, who served on the School Board of the Deutsche Schule Pretoria as Deputy Treasurer from March 2002 to March 2006.

Dr Backeberg was a man of great dignity, whose work was characterised by clarity, responsibility and a high level of personal integrity. He consistently placed the utmost importance on a sound, accurate and meticulous approach to his work. Clear structures, clearly defined roles and reliable decision-making processes were, for him, expressions of respect for the office, the people and the institution he served.

His strategic foresight, together with his clear and steadfast commitment to the preservation of the German language and culture, left a lasting mark on the work of the School Board. Dr Backeberg combined adherence to principle with vision, thereby making a significant contribution to the long-term stability and direction of the school.

His commitment, dignity and integrity will not be forgotten. The Deutsche Schule Pretoria will honour his memory with lasting respect.
